We're starting a new season in Peti Kupe with one of the most influential musicians of soul music - Curtis Mayfield! Famous for his soul classics such as "Move On Up", "Pusherman", "People Get Ready" and "It's All Right", Mayfield is a legendary American singer, guitarist and a producer. He started his career in a gospel choir and later at the age of 14 joined the vocal group The Impressions. After leaving the group, Mayfield released several albums, including the soundtrack for the blaxploitation movie Super Fly in 1972. He is one of the first musicians to bring socially conscious themes to soul music highlighting minority problems such as crime, poverty and drug abuse. Inspired by his legacy, the Homage Collective performs Mayfield's best-known songs in the new arrangements on Thursday, September 12!
